Esser Growth Principles was founded with a commitment to sharing the transformative power of emotional intelligence and leadership coaching with emerging leaders in the law enforcement community, business executives, and anyone else looking to make positive change in their life.

When I began my career in law enforcement nearly 25 years ago, I would have done the work for free - there was nothing you could say to cast a negative light on the profession. However, after a few years of being exposed to the dark sides of the work and hearing all the complaints from others around me about how "things could be better," it started to become a JOB. Negative opinions from coworkers, citizens in their worst moments, and an ever-changing perspective from the media began to take its toll. I found myself complaining more, enjoying my hobbies less, and generally more unhappy.

That carried on until I decided that I was only in control of my emotions, not my circumstances or those around me. I began to look at situations from a more positive perspective - trying to see the silver lining in any moment. My optimism has always been a driving factor, so I leaned into it. Regardless of my situation, I tried to be kind and open to others, and truly enjoy each day as a gift. I began to be more cognizant of my own emotions and interactions with others. As is said in Luke 6:32 32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them." I took this as a challenge to be kind to those who were hardest to get along with.

While in Quantico, Virginia, I had the privilege to take the EQi 2.0 assessment as part of a graduate course in Emotional Intelligence at the FBI-National Academy. That was the first time that I was able to see what emotional intelligence was in a tangible form. Fast forward to 2024, when I became certified in the administration of the EQi 2.0. I saw improvements in every category of the assessment, and I had a pretty good idea of why they improved.

I believe that emotional intelligence ultimately enhances communication and fosters stronger relationships among team members.

My tailored coaching programs focus on improving self-awareness, which not only boosts individual well-being but also equips leaders with the skills to manage stress effectively.
